The Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia (University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, UniMORE) was founded in 1175 and is the third oldest university of the world. Several times, also including last years, UniMORE was ranked among the best 5 public universities according to Italy’s leading financial daily (Il Sole 24), and among the top 10 medium-sized Italian universities by the Times Higher Education Ranking.
UniMORE can offer a wide range of degree programs at the undergraduate level, right up to doctoral studies in most disciplinary areas, from the humanities and social sciences to engineering and technology, and from physical and natural sciences to medicine and life sciences.
UniMORE is involved in several national and international research projects and research activities, and can benefit of update facilities, strengthened partnerships and a research office which can provide continuous technical and managerial support during scientific projects development.
The staff involved in the presented project from UniMORE is employed at the Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra (Earth Sciences Department). Researches on basic and applied field, primarily aimed at the environmental issues, involving geology, mineralogy, geochemistry, paleontology and petrography are in progress at the Earth Sciences Department. As a consequence, many national and international research projects are carried on by the local staff. The topics cover innovative applications and theoretical research. In particular, the incorporation of industry in several approved projects and/or active collaborations allows the technological application of the fundamental research, while the academic studies guarantee the innovative aspects and the necessary scientific background.
In addition to the numerous laboratories inside the Department, the whole staff may freely access to the laboratories of Centro Interdipartimentale Grandi Strumenti (C.I.G.S.) of Modena and Reggio Emilia University, which also plays a role of reference and exchange of experiences on various issues and applications for researchers of different origins. In addition the service that C.I.G.S. provides to researchers is not only restricted to the availability of new and updated scientific instruments, but also includes specialists in various instrumental techniques, essential to meet the ever-new more specific and complex research needs.
